Already this week we learned that one of the largest business groups in New Hampshire is endorsing Northern Pass because of its positive impact on jobs and energy costs. More positive news broke on Tuesday, as Northeast Utilities management announced that Northern Pass is making progress buying land and plans to finalize the new route this fall.
Clearly, momentum is building behind the project and frankly, we are not surprised. New Hampshire needs the thousands of jobs, millions in tax revenue, and lower cost energy that Northern Pass will deliver.
This recent progress also reminds us of the epic failure of the Society for Protection of New Hampshire Forests when it comes to Northern Pass. As we detailed in a recent column in the Laconia Daily Sun, property owners are exercising their right to sell to Northern Pass and according to various media reports are being well compensated for it. That’s good news and how the free market should function.
